Ring Finger

What is that that lingers
On the second biggest of your fingers?
Round and silver, overbearing
Holstering a mineral ball-bearing

What can you mean? Like occupied?
Engaged? Are you quite qualified?
So young and yet so ready
Don’t jump the gun, get set, steady…

Hold on, what’s this, a band of gold?
On the same finger, don’t you look old
Dressed in white, your special day
See you around. One year, one day.

Oh no it’s gone, did it get lost?
Perhaps you couldn’t afford the cost
You can’t have given it to a friend,
There weren’t any by the end

So you call me on the phone
What’dya mean you’re all alone?
You had a ring rings never end
They just go around and start again.
